Founded in 1951, CAUT is the national voice for academic staff. Today, representing 68,000 teachers, librarians, researchers, general staff and other academic professionals, CAUT is an outspoken defender of academic freedom and works actively in the public interest to improve the quality and accessibility of post-secondary education in Canada.

The CAUT Defence Fund provides unionized Canadian academic member unions with a unified strike fund, supporting 25,000 academics across Canada.

The primary purpose of the Defence Fund is to provide strike benefits to associations while its members are engaged in a strike or lock-out and experiencing loss of salary.

CAFA is the federation of the academic staff associations at Alberta's four research intensive universities. The four associations are: The Association of Academic Staff University of Alberta, Athabasca University Faculty Association, The Faculty Association of the University of Calgary and The University of Lethbridge Faculty Association. The objectives of the Confederation are to promote the quality of education in the province and to promote the well-being of Alberta universities and their academic staff.

Public Interest Alberta is a non-profit, non-partisan, province-wide organization focused on education and advocacy on public interest issues. PIA exists to foster an understanding of the importance of public spaces, services and institutions in Albertans' lives, and to build a network of people and organizations committed to advancing the public interest.
